Optional Mapbox setup

Bring Your Own Keys.

RCycle is built to stay free. You can use the default mapping software at no cost, or connect your own free Mapbox account for higher-quality 3D satellite imagery.

Default maps: no signup required Mapbox: optional, higher-quality 3D satellite maps

Your key stays on your computer.

RCycle stores your Mapbox access token locally on your machine. It is never sent to the RCycle cloud. The token is used only by the app to retrieve Mapbox imagery directly for your local map view.

Set up Mapbox in four steps.

Mapbox calls its API keys access tokens. The default public token is all you need for RCycle.

1

Create a free Mapbox account

Open the Mapbox signup page and create an account with your email address. Mapbox provides a free usage allowance that is more than enough for typical personal RCycle use.

2

Verify your email and sign in

Complete Mapbox's email verification, then sign in to the Mapbox console. Once your account is active, Mapbox automatically creates a default public access token for you.

Open the Mapbox console ↗
3

Open Access Tokens

In your Mapbox account, open the Access Tokens page. Find the entry named Default public token.

You do not need to create a secret token or change any advanced permissions for RCycle.

Open Access Tokens ↗
4

Copy the default public token into RCycle

Copy the Default public token. It will start with pk.. Paste that value into RCycle's Mapbox token setting and save it.

That's it. RCycle can now use Mapbox for its enhanced 3D satellite imagery.

No Mapbox account? No problem.

Mapbox is completely optional. RCycle's default mapping option remains available without an account, API key, or paid subscription. Bringing your own Mapbox key simply gives RCycle access to Mapbox's higher-quality satellite map experience without adding that cost to the project.
